Carnival's History
It was a huge gamble, but in 1972, with only one older ship ( the Empress of Britain - renamed Carnivale )  A cruise legend began, Carnival Cruise Lines.   In the 70’s, Carnival Cruise Lines was enviously known among rival cruise fleets as the “K-Mart of the Caribbean” with a trio of liners turned into cruise ships.  The cruise line’s motto was “We’ve got the Fun Ships”.  In contrast to the traditional cruise ships or liners, Carnival Cruise Lines   purposely created a more casual and “fun” atmosphere aboard their ships.  This theme continues to survive throughout the cruise line’s fleet of 19 ships.  In 1982, Carnival Cruise Lines built their first “newbuild” and named it the Tropicale.  No longer is Carnival the K-Mart of the Caribbean, but rather Carnival Cruise Lines  has evolved it’s concept into a well-respected mega cruise line.

The Carnival Corporation has since acquired several cruise lines, and can now boost that they are the largest cruise line in the world, with 45+ ships in their fleet.  The Carnival Corporation  owns Carnival Cruise Lines, Windstar Cruises, Holland America Line, Costa Cruises, Princess Cruises, the ultra-luxury Seabourn Cruise Line and the venerable Cunard Line.  Carnival Cruise Lines has become a house-hold name, and is one of the most popular cruise lines for first-time and repeat cruisers.

Excitement, Fun, Excessive, Over-the-Top, Neon, Wonder,  Romance, and a treat to the senses!  Just some of the adjectives that describe what a Carnival Cruise is like.  The people who would love the flambouyancy of a Las Vegas vacation, would absolutely love a Carnival Cruise.  Even if you would prefer to just kick back with a good book, a Carnival Cruise is for you, because there is plenty of room on the ships to get away from all the excitement if you like.  For those who want to meet people and just plain have fun, this is the cruise line for you.  With the introduction of the new "Spirit-Class" vessels, Carnival now offers a sleightly upscale experience with many balconies, soaring atriums, glass elevators, and fine dinning.  If there was a cruise line attempting to be everything to everyone...Carnival Cruise Lines comes pretty close.
