Introducing: JOHN HEALD SENIOR CRUISE DIRECTOR / BRAND AMBASSADOR Carnival Cruise Line

After graduating from Loughborough
University in Leicestershire, England, John Heald joined Lloyd’s of London as a marine insurance broker in 1985.
However, after a year and a half there, Heald got the urge to travel. He answered a newspaper advertisement
for Carnival Cruise Lines and was hired by the company in late 1986, joining the bar department aboard the SuperLiner Holiday.
Although he appeared destined for a food and beverage career, Heald’s quick wit and engaging personality made
him a natural for the entertainment world and, in 1989, he was promoted to social host. In 1990, Heald
traveled to Helsinki, Finland, to help launch Carnival’s first 70,000-ton SuperLiner, Carnival Fantasy.
Heald’s easy rapport with guests was evident and
in 1990 he was promoted to cruise director. Over the years, Heald has served as cruise director on just
about every ship in the Carnival fleet and has been involved with the introduction of seven new vessels. In
March 2004, Heald was promoted to the newly created position of senior cruise director and is the only individual at Carnival
to hold this position. In this capacity, Heald is responsible for overseeing all on-board activities and entertainment.
In March 2007, as part of the launch of the
Carnival Freedom, Heald started a blog to offer his own unique perspective on the ship’s inaugural European season. The blog quickly gained
a loyal following and since its debut, Heald’s on-line postings have garnered nearly 4 million visitors, making it one
of the most popular travel-related blogs on the Internet. The popularity of the blog spawned the “John
Heald’s Bloggers Cruise,” the first of which was held aboard the Carnival Freedom in January 2008.
The second “Bloggers Cruise” is being held aboard the Carnival Fantasy from New Orleans in February 2009,
with two additional voyages scheduled for the Carnival Dream in November and December 2009.
